Health benefit of tiger nut milk: My personal experience
I’m attracted to this milk because it gives me mental clarity, and as a mom, I make it for my child's brain development.Â
You can’t go wrong making tiger nuts milk at home to boost your and your family's health.
In addition, turning tiger nuts into milk is affordable, costing you just a few minutes of your free time.
The Recipe
I agree with you; the recipe I’m sharing costs me a few Canadian coins because I’m adding three ingredients that make this recipe more creamy and nutritious.
Other than that, trust me, this powerful recipe costs nothing to make if you want to drink your milk plain or use it as a base in your smoothies and other recipes, which I’ll share in future posts.
So, I would like to keep my earlier statement that making tiger nut milk costs nothing other than your time.
Let’s dive in.
Ingredients:

3 cups of dry tiger nuts
1 cup of dates (optional)
Two bananas (optional, adds potassium and natural sweetness)
One coconut (optional)
Ginger (optional)
Freshwater (as much as you want desire)
Tools you’ll need:
Cheesecloth(es)
Two containers or bowls
Measuring cup or any container
Glass/plastic bottles (to store your milk)
Ice packs (about 2)
Fine mesh strainer (optional)
Funnel (optional)
The process:
Step 1. Soak dry tiger nuts in water for 2–3 days. Wash them and change the water every day.Â
Most importantly, make sure they are soft, so try chewing some. If you’re comfortable chewing them, then it’s time to turn these bad boys into milk. Wash, rinse, drain water, and set aside.
Step 2: Add fresh water to a blender, set some aside if you want a thinner consistency, add tiger nuts and other ingredients, and blend these bad boys.Â
While blending, keep adding fresh water until you achieve your desired consistency and until the mixture is smooth.
Step 3: Pour blended tiger nuts into a bowl. Drop 1–2 ice packs in the bowl to prevent your blends from going sour. Then, get a cheesecloth, a measuring cup, and an empty bowl.
I utilise locally made cheesecloth from Nigeria.Â
When I realised how nutritiously powerful tiger nut milk is, particularly for my child's brain development, I made it regularly at home.Â
Therefore, I asked someone to help buy tons of dry tiger nuts and locally-made cheesecloths in Nigeria.
I’m using a uniquely made pouch-like cheesecloth, but you can use any cheesecloth or a fine mesh strainer.
Enough of raving; let’s continue.
Dig a cup in the blended tiger nuts bowl, pour it into the cheesecloth, and squeeze. And you get your much-awaited milk.
But do this one thing.
While squeezing away all the milk you can get, add 1–2 ice packs or some ice to prevent it from going sour and to maintain its freshness.
You don’t want to ruin all your hard work? Do you?
Tiger nut milk can quickly become sour during the milking process, so add some ice to your milk.
Step 4: Follow step 3 until you get all the milk from your blends. Afterwards, repeat the process. This time, you can layer up a fine mesh strainer with cheesecloth. The idea behind this step is to catch any shafts in your milk.
Step 5: Pour the milk using a funnel into a bottle or other container and store it in the fridge.
