The Struggle Is Real: How I'm Quickly Solving My Wellness Problems
By the way, I'm away from home

Finally, I’m physically on the other side, but I discovered some problems I wanted to fix.
Now that I’m away from home, continuing my daily habits and routines has been a significant challenge.
Although I had abstractly planned my wellness routines, settling down took a while.
When you’re away from home and have never made concrete wellness plans, everything falls off like a pack of cards.
Essentially, I underestimated how my sojourn would affect my daily routines. I couldn’t get myself to exercise regularly, eat healthily, and write daily.
Friends, I’ve gained some weight in almost two months of inaction, and I dearly miss writing, blogging, and publishing online.
Enough of rant; after all, I’m human.
The good news is I’ve settled down on the other side and am determined to revamp my daily habits and routines, no matter the obstacles.
Discovering the problems
It’s a given that I’ll be working night shifts the entire time I’m in my new location, so I needed to take a holistic look at how I want to conduct my daily activities.
As a night shift worker who aims to accomplish better spiritual, mental and physical health outcomes, I noticed I’ve been eating crap at work, and I alluded to two reasons for this problem.
First, I don’t eat dinner before I go to work.
Second, I don’t pack healthy snacks for work.
To solve this problem, I meticulously planned to:
Eat dinner before I leave for work. I’ll start with a healthy salad, so stay tuned for my posts on healthy salad recipes.
Pack healthy snacks in a bento box for work, so stay tuned for my posts on healthy snack recipes.
However, I need to start cooking in my hotel room. Thankfully, there’s a two-stove cooker that I can use.
But there’s a problem.
There are no kitchen utensils/ cookware, such as pots, spoons, or plates, so I must stock up on these items before I start prepping my meals and snacks.
Strategic problem solving

As a wellness visionary, I aim to convert this miniature kitchen into a wellness kitchen. I want to bring my wellness kitchen from home to where I am.
And here’s why.
At this phase in my life, I’m in a rebuilding process.
When I moved from Nigeria to Canada in 2011, I came with a set of visions.
One of these visions was to build a wellness kitchen in my home. I invested in good-quality cookware and kitchen appliances.
I often joked:
“I don’t fancy anything like cars, clothes, or purses, but I fancy good-quality kitchen utensils, cookware, and appliances.”
Now that I’ve physically moved to the other side and am rebuilding, I might as well start building the wellness kitchen of my dreams.
Does that make sense to you? What do you think?
In my mind, a wellness kitchen is what you make of it. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy.
Right now, I’m in a hotel room with a small kitchen, and this is going to be my wellness kitchen.
Period.
Friends, I’m thrilled to share my journey as I transform this miniature kitchen into a wellness kitchen. Stay tuned for updates and join this exciting transformation!
To chip this in: I’m registering for a new gym membership (I’ve had my gym membership at home freeze till I’m back) soon, so stay tuned.
Final Thoughts
Being away from home is no excuse for dropping my wellness routines and habits.
Transitioning from the familiar to the unfamiliar is challenging but entirely understandable. Hence, falling off our routines and daily habits is understandable.
However, we can quickly return when we understand the value of these things for our health and well-being.
As I’m discovering in my new home (at least for now), habit is a powerful phenomenon. As someone rightly said:
“…Your habits will find you in difficult times, not what you know.”
Simply put, I’m back on track with my wellness habits.
As a night shift worker, I’ve devised a wellness strategy to eat healthy before and during work.
This strategy includes cooking my meals, packing healthy snacks, and ensuring a balanced diet that meets my nutritional needs.
Lastly, with a clear vision, I planned to invest in a wellness kitchen to cook healthy meals and snacks.
This would solve the problem I’m currently facing in my new abode: the lack of kitchen utensils and cookware.
Stay tuned as I share my journey to overcome this challenge. I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences, so please share them in the comments below.
Way to go! The wellness journey must not stop.
