How do you achieve longevity in your fitness journey?
I don’t have all the answers.
However, as a long-term observant practitioner in this field who has experienced my fair share of false starts, failures, and varying challenges, I understand that starting a fitness journey, like any other journey, is a deeply personal struggle, and continuing is also a personal struggle.
Interestingly, most of these battles start and end in the mind.
The self-doubt stemming from whether you can achieve your fitness goals even before you embark on your fitness journey.
The constant debate about whether or not you should work out on a particular day.
The disappointment that comes when you don’t see the desired result.
The feeling of getting bored with your workout routine.
The excuses you give yourself when eating those pizzas instead of salad.
The urge to give up your fitness journey altogether.
It's important to remember that all these struggles are daily and part of the journey.
The Habits
Despite the endless battles, I've discovered that one must find a way to thrive on this journey.
For me, it’s a journey of no return. That’s my mindset.
What’s your mindset?
Here, I’m sharing with you the nine habits that I’ve utilized to keep me going:
Understand your identity; this can only be achieved through prayer with your maker.
Have a strong vision by starting with the end in mind.
Set small goals and work on your goals one at a time.
Build a system, and don’t rely on motivation.
Leverage the best time for you and be realistic about it.
Always have a plan, even if you get punched in the face.
Take a break to refresh and renew your strength; it’s a marathon, not a race.
Be intentionally persistent when working on the system you build.
Be consistent, knowing that not showing up will cause more harm than good to your identity.
Conclusion
As you rightly observe from the headline of this post, I’ve read the books:
Think and Grow Rich and The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.
By the way, I’ll encourage you to read those books if you haven’t done so.
Other books I highly recommend if you’re interested in achieving success in what you do are:
Psycho-cybernetics
Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience
Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones
Honestly, I read those books a long time ago.
So, I’m uncertain if and how reading them impacts my mindset in my fitness journey.
However, I can say that since I cultivated these habits, I’ve never looked back.
Can you achieve longevity in your fitness journey?
You could cultivate the habits I share with you.
